The path of a labyrinth is rhythmic. It is not about a goal but the journey, taking one to the center and then back out to the start. Through this procession and the rhythm of twists and turns, that some see as a metaphor for life’s journey, the walker can reach a level of clarity allowing them to learn and understand themselves more deeply.
Labyrinths can take many shapes and forms but for the client, Catholic Memorial, the most appropriate form had separate paths for three individuals. Three is an important number in the catholic faith as it references the holy trinity, the father, son, and holy ghost. The three paths would also lend well to teaching a group of students and fit well within the existing courtyard, as there are three exits from the building that could lead to the entries into the labyrinth.
